Rachel McAdams, the actress who brought Regina George, the “queen bee” of pop culture in Mean Girls, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday, honoring her family for believing in and encouraging her to fulfill her dream of pursuing acting.

“I want to stop time for a second, because you only get a few moments like this in life to thank you for everything on this stage. It’s all because of you, the love you gave us, the beautiful childhood you gave us and for believing in me long before I could understand how to believe in myself,” McAdams said, addressing her parents, in her thank you speech.

During her speech, the American performer recalled the moment when her parents signed her up for a theater camp, a “magical place” where “a group of dreamers” made her feel very much alive.

“It seems silly to have just my name here, so I share this little piece of Earth with all of you,” added the actress, who then unveiled star number 2,833, located just a few meters from the legendary El Capitan Theater.

The actor Domhnall Gleeson, a great friend of McAdams and guest of honor of this ceremony, was in charge of dedicating a few words full of affection and humor. “Rachel, I don’t think you deserve this. It’s not fair to be everyone’s favorite person on set and the best actress in the room,” he joked.

“It’s not right to be a Hollywood star and an actress with a talent for comedy and drama, not to be governed by a genre or expectations and be the most charming person I’ve ever met in my life, that’s not how we do things. So, yeah, I don’t think you deserve it,” laughingly added Gleeson, who shared the screen with the performer in ‘About Time’.

The event was also attended as guest of honor by Sam Raimi, director of the film ‘Send Help’ which stars McAdams and opens on January 30. “For the first time, people will be able to step on your feet,” said the filmmaker in his speech.

After her debut in the early 2000s, McAdams rose to worldwide stardom in 2004 with the iconic roles of Regina George in ‘Mean Girls’ and Allie Hamilton in ‘The Notebook’ (‘The Notebook’).

Her versatility has led her to star in everything from blockbusters like ‘Sherlock Holmes’ and ‘Doctor Strange’ to acclaimed dramas like ‘Spotlight’, for which she received an Oscar nomination.

With a career that balances romantic comedy, auteur cinema and suspense, McAdams has established herself as one of the most respected and chameleonic actresses of her generation, reported Agencia EFE.
