Uruguayan coach Martín Varini’s Necaxa began with a dominant start.

But after five minutes, the Rayados took control and in the 15th minute took the lead with a right-footed goal by Bertareme, off a pass from Spaniard Oliver Torres.

Monterrey fell behind after the goal, despite which they extended the lead with a right-footed strike from Fimbres in the 31st minute, assisted by Roberto de la Rosa.

Los Rayos attacked more in the second half, led by Colombian Kevin Rosero, but lacked punch.

Especially in the 52nd minute, when Argentinian duo Tomás Badaloni and Kevin Carranza made a good save by goalkeeper Luis Cárdenas.

Rosero kept the lead, outwitted defenders in the 81st minute, but Franco Rossano missed the target in Necaxa’s clearest chance of the game.

Monterrey has one win, one loss and three points, the same balance as Necaxa.
