On August 29, 2025, Sabrina Carpenter released her long-awaited seventh studio album, Man’s Best Friend, through Island Records.

The news was confirmed by the artist in June, through a post on Instagram where she shared the cover and expressed her excitement, “I can’t wait for it to be yours.”

However, on the eve of the release, the album was leaked online, which generated strong reaction among fans and media.

Some criticized the quality of the leaked file, calling it “choppy” or poorly prepared. Despite this setback, the album was officially released at midnight and is now available globally.

Man’s Best Friend has been described as a provocative and sophisticated pop work.

It combines elements of disco, pop with retro touches, country-pop and sophisti-pop, reinterpreting classic sounds with instruments such as clavinet, sitar or agogo.

The lyrics explore with humor, wit and irony themes such as female empowerment, sexuality and emotional autonomy, questioning gender stereotypes.

The album’s artwork -which shows Sabrina on all fours while a man holds her hair- generated controversy. Some called it misogynistic, while others defended it as an ironic criticism of the patriarchy and a bid for female creative freedom.

The album includes 12 tracks, highlighting the singles “Manchild” and “Tears”.

“Manchild,” released on June 5, 2025, was co-written with Jack Antonoff and Amy Allen, and achieved number one in the U.S., U.K. and Ireland. It is a mix of pop, country-influenced synth-pop and disco energy, critiquing an immature ex with satirical flair.

The second single, “Tears”, was released along with the album. It is a pop song with disco overtones whose visuals and cinematic style have been much talked about.

Critics have praised the project as a creative leap for Carpenter. The Guardian described the album as bold and full of musical nuances, highlighting its sonic richness and risky proposals.

Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly highlighted it as one of the most anticipated releases of the weekend.

In the music video for “Tears,” actor Colman Domingo surprises by appearing in drag, evoking The Rocky Horror Picture Show and adding a theatrical and provocative tone to the release.
