According to the National Transportation Safety Board(NTSB) report, the pilot, Ara Zobayan, suffered spatial disorientation as he entered the clouds, resulting in loss of control of the aircraft.

The group was headed to a basketball tournament at the Mamba Academy, founded by Bryant to train young talent.

News of the accident spread quickly, generating a wave of shock and grief around the world.

Sports, entertainment and political figures expressed their sorrow, underscoring the impact Kobe Bryant had beyond basketball.

Following the accident, the NTSB conducted a thorough investigation that concluded in February 2021.

The final report determined that the probable cause of the accident was the pilot’s decision to continue the flight under visual flight rules in weather conditions requiring instrument flight, which led to his spatial disorientation and loss of control.

In addition to Kobe and Gianna Bryant, the other victims of the accident were: John Altobelli, Orange Coast College baseball coach; his wife, Keri; their daughter, Alyssa; Christina Mauser, assistant coach of the Mamba Academy women’s basketball team; Sarah Chester and her daughter, Payton; and the pilot, Ara Zobayan.

The tragedy left a deep impression on the sports community and fans around the world, who continue to remember and honor Kobe Bryant’s legacy.
