The president of the United States, Donald Trump, and the first lady, Melania Trump, released this week their official Christmas card, an image that has attracted attention for its sober and formal tone, very different from the traditional festive style that usually characterizes these dates in the White House.
In the photograph, both appear standing, dressed completely in black and with a serious expression, surrounded by white lights and green garlands. The image is accompanied by a brief and direct message: “Merry Christmas from President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump,” with no additional references to the year or political messages.

The postcard was taken on Sunday, December 7 by Andrea Hanks, one of the President’s official photographers, in the Cross Hall of the White House.
This historic corridor, which connects the East Room with the State Dining Room, is often used for official ceremonies and high-level receptions, reinforcing the institutional character of the image.
Donald Trump wears a classic black tuxedo with satin lapels and matching bow tie as he holds Melania Trump’s hand.
The first lady, meanwhile, wears a long black dress, straight cut, sleeveless and closed neck, complemented only with a bracelet, in a choice that reinforces the elegant and minimalist aesthetics of the postcard.
A sober Christmas at the White House

Both pose facing forward, under the U.S. presidential seal and flanked by two official flags.
The lighting is soft and even, with white lights running along the green garlands placed on both sides of the aisle.
In the background, slightly out of focus, the large Christmas tree installed in the Blue Room, one of the most emblematic spaces of the presidential residence during the Christmas holidays, can be seen.
These celebrations mark the Trump’s first Christmas festivities since their return to the White House.
For this season, Melania Trump decided to adorn the presidential residence with a large but sober display:
51 Christmas trees distributed in different areas, more than 200 meters of garlands and around 2,000 strips of lights.
All in mostly white tones, following an elegant and restrained decorative line.
A postcard that reflects the presidential style

The release of the holiday postcard is an annual White House tradition.
It usually provides a symbolic image of the style and narrative that each administration wishes to project.
In this case, the choice of dark colors, the absence of smiles and the institutional setting have generated comments for their stark contrast with the warmer and more familiar postcards of previous years.
Beyond interpretations, the image reflects a presidential Christmas with a formal tone, framed in one of the most iconic buildings in the country.
And under a tradition that combines politics, symbolism and public communication.
Especially relevant for millions of U.S. Hispanics who closely follow the gestures and messages of national leadership during key dates such as these.
