Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Crowned 2025 NBA MVP After Record-Breaking Season

Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was officially named NBA 2025 Most Valuable Player (MVP), capping a season in which he led his team to a league-leading 68 wins, the best record of the year.

The announcement came just days after the Thunder eliminated Nikola Jokic’s Denver Nuggets in Game 7 of the Western semifinals. The 26-year-old Canadian surpassed Jokic in the voting after finishing second in 2024.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 32.7 points per game, leading the league in scoring, with an impressive 51.9% shooting efficiency from the field.

In addition, he added 6.4 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.0 block per game.

His combined stats had only been matched by Michael Jordan in the 1987-88 and 1990-91 seasons, years in which he was also MVP.

The Thunder broke the single-season point differential record (+12.9) and won 18 more games than Denver, its closest rival.

In addition, he accumulated a combined 208 steals and blocks.
