The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, declared this Friday that the meeting with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, in Washington, the first meeting between the two, went “very well”.
“Good, very good,” Sheinbaum responded to EFE when asked after the 2026 World Cup draw ceremony, where she met with Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The President made this brief statement upon arriving at the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington for a meeting with the Mexican community in the United States.
Sheinbaum, on her first trip to the U.S. capital since becoming president, was greeted at the door of the institute by people with flags and banners, and a mariachi band.
The president also posted on the social network X that the meeting with Trump and Carney was “excellent”.
He also said they talked about “the great opportunity that the 2026 World Cup represents for the three countries and the good relationship” they have.
“We agreed to continue working together on commercial issues with our teams,” he added.
The president coincided hours earlier with Trump and Carney during the World Cup draw ceremony held at the Kennedy Center in Washington.
The United States, Mexico and Canada are the hosts of the tournament.
The three North American leaders took the stage together to pull their respective countries’ ballots out of the hype and then sat together for the rest of the event, chatting and laughing in a relaxed manner.
According to Canadian public broadcaster CBC, at the end of the draw, the three held a meeting that lasted about 45 minutes.
The meeting comes after Trump indicated on Wednesday that he will likely let the T-MEC, a free trade agreement with Mexico and Canada due for review in 2026, expire and seek a new trade deal with his neighbors.
The Republican declared that Mexico and Canada “have taken advantage” of the United States economically.
Upon his arrival Friday at the draw ceremony, Trump nevertheless affirmed that he gets along “very well” with Sheinbaum and Carney.
