The man who allegedly ended the life of Spanish actress and singer Encarnita Polo on Friday, who according to indications strangled her in the Avila residence where they both lived, is in police custody in a psychiatric unit, sources from the Subdelegation of Government confirmed to EFE.
The man, who is 66 years old and not an octogenarian as initially reported by sources in the investigation, had shown no signs of aggression in this residence for the elderly.
He will remain in police custody until his condition allows him to be brought before a court.
The National Police has opened an investigation into the death of the artist Encarnita Polo, who was 86 years old, and who was buried this Saturday in the municipal cemetery of Avila (central Spain).
“For many she was an unforgettable singer and actress, a pioneer of flamenco-pop whose voice and personality marked several generations. But for me she was, above all, my mother: a strong, funny woman with a unique character,” said her daughter, Raquel Waitzman Polo, in the message she sent to her loved ones.
Born in Seville in 1939, Encarnita Polo managed to become one of the most prominent figures of the Spanish music scene in the sixties and seventies and one of the most popular thanks to television, where she continued to appear as a guest after leaving the recording world.
