Earlier, the U.S . Coast Guard confirmed the presence of a two-year-old boy among the fatalities of the accident, which occurred in waters near the Texas town of Galveston.

The plane took off from Merida, in the Mexican state of Yucatan, and was headed for Galveston Scholes International Airport, about 50 miles southeast of Houston, according to air tracking website FlightRadar24.
Other witnesses said that at the time of the accident, which occurred shortly before 15:17 local time yesterday (9:17 GMT Monday), there was very poor visibility in the area due to fog, which is believed to be the reason why the accident may have occurred.
