Singer Peso Pluma, considered one of the greatest current exponents of corridos tumbados, once again made clear the value he places on his Mexican roots, this time through gastronomy.

During a dynamic interview for Complex magazine, the tapatío artist talked about his culinary tastes, his lifestyle in the United States and some personal anecdotes, accompanied by his cousin and musical colleague Tito Double P.

In between quick questions about music, fashion and experiences after achieving international fame, there was one topic that particularly caught the eye: food.

Asked about the worst food he has tasted in the United States, the singer of “La Bebé (Remix)” and “Hollywood” answered bluntly that eggs and tortillas are products that, in his opinion, do not reach the level of flavor of Mexico.

“Well, the egg here in the United States, it really doesn’t crack, man…. Oh, and the tortillas here are not good at all. The tortillas in Mexico… and freshly made. There’s no other way,” said the artist, emphasizing the difference between the two countries.

For the musician, accustomed to a traditional Mexican diet, these gastronomic deficiencies have been part of his process of adapting to American life.

A featherweight joke

Peso Pluma and Tito Double P agreed that one of the most notable differences in living in the United States is the absence of tortillerías, those everyday establishments in any Mexican city where you can buy fresh tortillas on a daily basis.

Both joked about the possibility of opening their own in the United States, as a way of bringing a piece of their culture to the Hispanic communities that value this staple food so highly. The quip sparked laughter, but also reflected a longing for the flavors that connect them to their country of origin.

In the same conversation, the musicians shared their favorite foods, showing the strong connection they have with Mexican cuisine. Among the dishes mentioned were tacos, gorditas de chicharrón, pozole, tacos dorados and tamales, all classics of popular gastronomy.

These examples not only show their personal preferences, but also function as a reminder of the diversity and richness of Mexican cuisine, internationally recognized for its flavor and for having been declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2010.

Peso Pluma’s statements did not go unnoticed among his followers, as they reaffirm the importance of preserving cultural identity even when achieving worldwide fame. The artist, who currently resides in the United States due to his international schedule, usually makes reference to his roots in interviews and concerts, and on this occasion he did so through food, one of the strongest symbols of belonging.

By highlighting the difference between the basic products of the Mexican diet and those of the United States, the singer also reflects the experience of millions of migrants who find in gastronomy a direct link to their homeland.
