For the first time in the history of streaming, an episode of a series will be screened in theaters at the same time it is released on a digital platform. This is the finale of Stranger Things, the hit production by the Duffer brothers, which will premiere on December 31, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. local time in more than 350 movie theaters in the United States and Canada, as well as on Netflix.

The final episode, titled The Right Side Up, will run for two hours and will remain on the air until January 1, 2026. Netflix confirmed that this simultaneous premiere represents an unprecedented moment in the entertainment industry, and will be a big farewell to a story that has accompanied millions of households for almost a decade.

Three key dates for fans

The final season of Stranger Things will be divided into three parts:

Part one: November 26

Part two: December 25

Final episode in theaters and Netflix: December 31.

The story will pick up right where season four ended, with the alternate dimension known as the Upside Down threatening to consume Hawkins, the fictional small town that became the center of a battle between good and evil.

The original cast returns in full:

Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven)

Finn Wolfhard (Mike)

Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin)

Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas)

Winona Ryder (Joyce)

David Harbour (Hopper)

Maya Hawke (Robin)

Also joining the cast are new faces Linda Hamilton (Terminator), Jake Connelly, Nell Fisher and Alex Breaux.

A series that marked a before and an after

Since its premiere in 2016, the Stranger Things series established itself as a cultural phenomenon.

The fourth season reached more than 1.838 million hours watched and 140 million views, making it the third most-watched English-language series on Netflix, behind only Wednesday and Adolescence.

For millions of Latino families, Stranger Things has been more than a series.

It is an intergenerational meeting point, a nostalgic trip back to the 1980s and a story about the importance of friendship, family and resilience.

Now, at the end of this cycle, the public will be able to say goodbye to it on the big screen, as if it were a movie.

Netflix’s decision to release the final episode in theaters allows communities to come together to experience this collective event.

It also offers an accessible alternative for those who do not have a stable internet connection, but do have local cinemas.

El estreno simultáneo en cines y streaming podría sentar un nuevo precedente para futuros lanzamientos
