Surprise in Liga MX! Abreu’s Tijuana defeats Correa’s Tigres

Castañeda scores the decisive goal

Tijuana, coached by Uruguayan Sebastián ‘Loco’ Abreu, defeated Tigres UANL, coached by Argentine Ángel Correa, 1-0 on Friday, with a goal by Kevin Castañeda, in the start of the thirteenth round of the Liga MX Clausura.

With this result, Tijuana reached 15 points, which places them in tenth place, two points behind eighth, the limit for advancing to the final phase. The felines are now in seventh place with 17 points.

Tijuana took possession of the ball in the first few minutes led by Uruguayan José Rivero and Kevin Castañeda.

They capitalized on their dominance in the 22nd minute when Castañeda fired a powerful shot from outside the box that beat the outstretched Argentine Nahuel Guzmán to make it 1-0.

In the second half, Tigres improved with the entry of Uruguayan Rodrigo Aguirre, who, in the 50th minute, shot straight at goal, but Antonio Rodríguez made a save.

In the 68th minute it was Ángel Correa’s turn, who received a shot from inside the box and fired a left-footed shot, which Rodríguez blocked and Aguirre’s counter-shot was saved by the defense.

In another game, Necaxa defeated Mazatlán 2-1 and earlier Puebla tied 1-1 against Bravos FC.

The thirteenth day will continue this Saturday with five games.

Among the highlights is the match between Pachuca, fifth in the table with 22 points, which will seek to improve its position with a victory over Cruz Azul, second in the competition with 27 points.

América and Monterrey, under pressure

In another game, Monterrey, led by Spaniard Sergio Canales, needs to get out of its results crisis with a win over San Luis to improve its twelfth position.
