According to official reports, the incident occurred around 7:00 a.m. (local time) when the assailant fired from an elevated position at an unmarked truck carrying migrants in ICE custody.

The FBI reported that the projectiles recovered at the scene had engraved messages against ICE, pointing to an ideological and political motive behind the attack.

The body of the shooter (Joshua Jahn) was found on the roof of an immigration attorney’s office near the center.

So far, one migrant has been confirmed dead.

Initially there was talk of a second victim, but authorities have not corroborated this. No ICE agents were injured, according to the Daily Mail.

Vice President JD Vance expressed condolences to the families and called for a halt to attacks on ICE.

Senator Ted Cruz called for an end to political language that inspires “deranged men to commit heinous crimes.”

This attack occurs in a context of growing tension in Texas.

Last month, a man was arrested after making a bomb threat at the same Dallas processing center.

And in July, at another ICE facility in Alvarado, Texas, 10 people were arrested after firing shots at agents in an attempt to disrupt operations.

ICE facilities in different cities have been the scene of protests and clashes in recent months.

With allegations of abuses against migrants on the one hand and calls from officials to reinforce security on the other.
