Actress Scarlett Johansson will star in the new ‘The Exorcist’ movie, a film to be directed, produced and written by Mike Flanagan, known for his horror films, Variety notes.
The project is a “radical approach” to the mythical horror film and will not be a sequel to ‘The Exorcist Believer’, a sequel that saw the light of day a few years ago.
The original film, which dates back to 1973, was a commercial success with $441 million grossed worldwide and ten Oscar nominations.
Scarlett Johansson is a guarantee for the box office

“Scarlett is a brilliant actress. Her performances always feel realistic, from genre films to summer blockbusters, and I couldn’t be happier to have her in this film, said Flanagan, known for films such as ‘The Life of Chuck’ and ‘The Curse of Hill House’.
Universal bought the rights to the original film for $400 million in 2021 but its first attempt to relaunch a saga in 2023 with “The Exorcist: Believer” was not too successful.
At the moment, no other information is known about the filming, except that it will be shot in New York City.
Johansson recently helped revive another major Universal franchise with “Jurassic World Rebirth,” released this summer, which grossed $868 million worldwide, reported Agencia EFE.
