On October 17, Puerto Rican journalist and anchor Astrid Rivera officially announced her departure from the morning show Despierta América (Univision) after eight years as part of its team. Her farewell, deeply emotional for the audience and her colleagues, marked the closing of an important chapter in her career, as well as the beginning of a new phase in which she seeks new professional and personal horizons.

In an exclusive interview with People en Español, Rivera clarified that her departure was not due to a dismissal, but a personal decision made with full conscience and honesty.

“I decided to tender my resignation; it was not a dismissal,” he explained.

Astrid noted that after years of dedication, she felt she had reached a point where she needed new challenges, different spaces and the possibility to explore her potential further.

“I want to continue to share my talent, my gifts and all that I have to offer… I feel like I reached a point where I needed new challenges, new spaces where I could feel freer, more useful and more able to expand.”

The communicator expressed that this change responds to a process of personal growth: “I believe that all human beings, when we feel that we have reached our limit in one place, we must move to continue growing”.

He also assured that his departure does not represent a definitive farewell to television, but a natural evolution.

“This is my moment. My time to move, to start a new stage, to build my own projects. Today is my time to fly.

Despierta América grows: Nitzia Chama joins the cast of the morning show

A little over a month after Rivera’s departure, the Despierta América family announced a new addition. This Monday, the program produced by Luz María Doria -and hosted by Karla Martínez, Alan Tacher, Raúl González, Francisca and other anchors- officially welcomed Nitzia Chama, a Mexican host and actress who has collaborated with Univision for years from its Los Angeles headquarters.

The news was announced live during the morning broadcast: “We welcome our beloved Nitzia Chama, who as of today is part of the Despierta Américafamily,” announced the team.

Chama, visibly excited, was grateful for the opportunity and the warm welcome from her new colleagues: “Starting today you can see me on the most watched national show in the United States and Latin America. I returned to my home Despierta América, but now from Miami.
