Filmmaker Ryan Coogler, director of the acclaimed ‘Sinners,’ will helm a new version of ‘The X Files’ that will star Danielle Deadwyler, The Hollywood Reporter reported Monday.

Coogler, who has long been attached to the show in the past, will write and direct the pilot project that has been officially greenlit by the Hullu platform.

Deadwyler (‘The Woman in the Yard’) will take on one of the central roles in the project, which in its original version was played by Gillian Anderson (Dana Scully) and David Duchovny (Fox Mulder).

The synopsis of the return of one of television’s most iconic series ‘The X Files’ features two highly decorated but very different FBI agents who form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-closed division dedicated to cases involving unexplained phenomena, according to the trade magazine.

The plot differs from the premise of the original Fox series, which premiered in 1993, ran for nine seasons and spawned two films. According to Agencia EFE, none of the original cast members are currently attached to the new project, which has yet to be released.
