A tragic weekend shooting at a San Antonio landscaping company has shocked the Hispanic community in Texas.

Authorities confirmed that three employees were killed by a co-worker who, according to their families, was also their friend and whom they had helped to start a new life in the United States.

The crime: three dead and a suicide bomber

The shooting occurred on Saturday, November 8, at a landscaping company located north of San Antonio.

The deceased were identified by police as Selvin Chacon and Sergio Chacon, two brothers originally from Honduras.

As well as Karen Paola Bautista, 24 years old, also Honduran and mother of a 3 year old child.

The San Antonio Police pointed to 21-year-old José Hernández Galo, who worked alongside the victims at the same company, as the main suspect.

Authorities reported that the attacker was found dead shortly thereafter, with a gunshot wound presumed to be self-inflicted, suggesting that he took his own life after the attack.

A friend turned aggressor

Relatives of the Chacon brothers told Univision that Jose Hernandez Galo was not a stranger, but a close friend whom they themselves had supported.

Sergio Chacón, 38, had found him a job in the company where they both worked, while his family took him into their home, providing him with lodging when he had nowhere to live.

According to family versions, the attacker could have faced addiction problems and episodes of mental instability.

The third victim, Karen Paola Bautista, was only 24 years old.

She was originally from Honduras and worked at the landscaping company to support her three-year-old son Yoav Isai.

His family, devastated by the loss, has started a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe to repatriate his body to his native country and financially support the little boy.

“Karen was a loving and hardworking mother. Her dream was to give her son a better future,” said one of her relatives in statements reported by local media.

Repatriation and mourning in Honduras

The bodies of Selvin and Sergio Chacon remain in the Bexar County morgue, awaiting consular procedures to be sent to Honduras.

His family has asked for support from the community to cover the costs of the process and to organize funerals in his hometown.

The Honduran Consulate in Houston has confirmed that it is providing assistance to the families of the victims and is working in coordination with the Texan authorities to expedite repatriation.

The case has caused deep consternation among the Honduran community of San Antonio, which has held vigils and solidarity demonstrations for the affected families.

Local organizations and religious groups have offered psychological support and financial assistance.

Meanwhile, San Antonio Police continue to investigate the motives for the attack, although early indications point to a personal or emotional conflict.

The police chief said that there is no evidence of a second suspect and that the case is considered closed, pending the final forensic report.
