U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday, October 6, again blamed Democrats for the government shutdown that began last week and called it a “kamikaze attack” by the opposition because, he said, “they have nothing to lose.”
“They initiated the government shutdown. It’s like a kamikaze attack of theirs. They have nothing to lose. They lost the presidential election by a landslide,” Trump told reporters during a White House meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The government shutdown began on October 1 due to the lack of agreement between Republicans and Democrats to pass a budget extension in Congress to continue funding the operations of the federal administration.
The Democrats are demanding an increase in some health care appropriations, while the Republicans accuse them of trying to extend health care services to undocumented migrants, something the opposition denies.
Asked about the possibility of air traffic disruptions in the face of a lack of controllers, Trump assured that those would be “delays by Democrats.”

The president also made no commitment to offer back pay to the thousands of federal employees whose jobs have been suspended because of the shutdown.
“The Democrats have put a lot of people at serious risk, but it really depends on who we talk about. In general, we’re going to take care of our people. There are people who maybe don’t deserve to be taken care of, and we will take care of them in other ways,” he stated.
Trump also pointed out that the shutdown has the “advantage” of allowing the Government to reduce the size of the Administration, cuts that, he said, will be announced soon.
