U.S. President Donald Trump announced Thursday, Nov. 27, the death of a National Guard agent he identified as Sarah Beckstrom, 20, who was attacked Wednesday in Washington along with a fellow agent who is in critical condition.
The president revealed the death of Sarah Bekcstrom in a call with elements of the Armed Forces, in which he also exposed that “is in serious condition” the alleged attacker, the 29-year-old Afghan Rahmanullah Lakanwal, whom he called “a savage monster”.

“Unfortunately, I am telling you that, just seconds before now, I heard that Sarah Beckstrom from West Virginia, one of the guards we are talking about, highly respected, young, terrific person, started her service in June 2023, extraordinary in every way, just passed away,” he said.
The head of state added that the other injured man, Andrew Wolfe, 24, “is fighting for his life.”
Before the call with the military on Thanksgiving, Trump again blamed the immigration policies of his predecessor, Joe Biden (2021-2025), for Lakanwal’s entry and subsequent attack.
“This atrocity reminds us that we have no higher national security priority than ensuring that we have complete control over the people who enter and remain in our country. For the most part, we don’t want them. They are coming here illegally,” he said.
Hours earlier, the U.S . Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced a “rigorous review” of the green cards of 19 nationalities from “countries of concern,” including Afghanistan, Cuba, Venezuela and Haiti.
The president thanked the troops for being “engaged in the mission” of protecting the United States from migrants he considers gang members, drug traffickers, ex-prisoners and former inmates of mental institutions.
“I want to express the anguish and horror of our entire nation over yesterday’s terrorist attack in our nation’s capital, in which a wild man shot two members of the West Virginia National Guard,” he reiterated.
