U.S. President Donald Trump had his dream celebration of the Gaza peace agreement between Israel and Hamas on Monday, October 13, in which he was the exclusive and exclusive protagonist, and in which he was able to proclaim that “we finally have peace in the Middle East” amidst the recognition of more than twenty world leaders.
Very late, and shamelessly making the heads of state and government who came to the Egyptian resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh for the ceremony and a meeting on the future and reconstruction of Gaza – which was held briefly, behind closed doors and after the formal closure of the meeting – wait for hours, Trump starred from beginning to end of the day, designed for his greater glory.

Egypt, and its president, Abdelfatah al Sisi, acted as obsequious hosts of the extraordinary meeting, considered “historic” by many of the leaders present on the few occasions when they had the opportunity to speak.
Sharm el Sheikh received its distinguished visitors, including Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, with billboards on which a smiling Trump welcomed them to “the land of peace”.
Also in attendance, surprisingly, but occupying a prominent place in all the day’s events was FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
The U.S. led the agenda for the meeting, which included a solo, individual greeting by Trump to all attendees on a tiered, red-upholstered podium and under a sign reading ‘PEACE 2025,’ when the program was already several hours behind schedule.
Peace signed after two years of war
Is it just me, but I couldn’t take my eyes off of Trump’s broken umbrella. He was the only one on the tarmac with an umbrella, first of all. But, it was broken! I, personally, think this is a comm, because who would give Trump a broken umbrella. In my opinion, that would… pic.twitter.com/PymNxETHDN

After that, Trump, Al Sisi, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani signed the agreement stipulating the end of two years of war in the Gaza Strip as chief mediators in the conflict since Hamas attacks against Israel in October 2023.
With the invited leaders in the background, the four leaders initialed and raised the document with Trump’s plan.
It was a huge hurdle. But everything went so well that no one could believe we were here, certifying and finishing everything, and everyone was happy. I'd never seen such happiness before
Donald Trump
Trump boasted that this “is the largest and most complex agreement, and it’s also the place that could cause tremendous problems, like World War III.
“World War III would start in the Middle East, and that’s not going to happen. In fact, we don’t want it to start anywhere, but it’s not going to happen. So I just wanted to thank you all.”
Neither Hamas nor Israel, which was invited and was even said to be attending with its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after he was invited by Trump and Al Sisi, but later declined the invitation, were present.
Essential” U.S. guarantee
At the close of the meeting, Egypt issued a statement saying that the U.S. role is one of the “essential guarantees” for achieving peace in the Gaza Strip and, by extension, the entire Middle East.
The note indicated that “the peace process requires exceptional figures capable of undertaking and implementing courageous initiatives, such as President Trump.”
While Al Sisi conveyed to the Republican the importance of his participation in the upcoming Gaza Reconstruction Conference, scheduled for November in Cairo.
Before that there was time for another speech by Trump, who backed by an entourage of presidents and prime ministers who were asked to take the podium – neither Erdogan, nor Macron, nor UN Secretary General António Guterres did so, as well as several Persian Gulf leaders – congratulated each and every one of those present.
Despite the notorious impatience of the leaders, the U.S. president did not stop his comments and jokes for almost 40 minutes, before dismissing the media attending the show to meet privately with the political leaders, a meeting that was brief and of which no news was given.
