The president of the United States, Donald Trump, tucked this Thursday the first lady, Melania Trump, during the presentation of the documentary about his wife, of whom he said that she is “a good influence” for him.
Both paraded down the red carpet – on this occasion black – rolled out at the Kennedy Center in Washington, the grand theater in the U.S. capital that the government has renamed after Trump.
“She speaks boldly, she’s fluent in many languages, she’s very intelligent, she understands what’s going on and she’s really a good influence on me,” Trump told reporters about the Slovenian former model, whom he married in 2005 in his third marriage.
The documentary ‘Melania,’ which Amazon MGM Studios will release this Friday in 3,300 theaters worldwide, including the United States and Spain, follows the first lady behind the scenes during the 20 days leading up to her husband’s second inauguration on January 20, 2025.
The film is directed by Brett Ratner, who had not been behind the camera since 2017 when several women accused him of harassment, and produced by Melania Trump herself, American Marc Beckman and Argentine Fernando Sulichin, producer of documentaries on Hugo Chávez and Fidel Castro.
It is an unprecedented story, given that the 55-year-old first lady has always kept a low public profile and has been especially jealous of her private life during Trump’s two terms in office.
The unpublished face of Melania Trump

Surrounded by an aura of mystery, Melania Trump is rarely seen in the White House and spends much of her time in New York, where her son, Barron Trump, is studying. With this documentary, however, she tries to get closer to the public.
“They are going to discover 20 days of my life, everything I have to take care of. I think they will like it,” he told EFE during the presentation.
“There will be a lot of details: my schedule was very intense, they followed me from morning to night. They will see my businesses, how I manage them, and also my philanthropy,” added the first lady, dressed in an elegant black ensemble, while her husband wore a navy blue suit with a wine-colored tie.
The presidential couple watched the film for the first time last Saturday at the White House, along with a small group of guests including boxer Mike Tyson, Apple CEO Tim Cook and Spanish model Georgina Rodriguez, Cristiano Ronaldo’s partner.
The first lady’s father, Viktor Knavs, most members of the government, such as Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Health Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and rapper Nicki Minaj, an avowed Trump supporter, were invited to Saturday’s official premiere.
For many of them, the life of the first lady, who was born in socialist Yugoslavia and came to New York as a young woman to work as a model, represents the American dream.
“Melania is very smart, has a great life story, very inspiring and a lot to share,” House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican, told EFE.
For his part, Steve Witkoff, a personal friend of the president and special envoy for the resolution of conflicts such as Ukraine or Gaza, assured that Trump trusts “the opinion and support” of his wife, whose life trajectory, he affirmed, represents American values.
Amazon has deployed an ambitious advertising campaign to promote the film, valued at some 35 million dollars, a figure that, according to the specialized press, is ten times the usual investment in similar documentaries.
Among other actions, ads were aired during the NFL playoffs and the First Lady rang the opening bell at the Wall Street Stock Exchange this week.
Although some sectors of Hollywood criticize Amazon as seeking to curry favor with the Trump Administration, the company maintains that it acquired the film for “one reason only: we think customers are going to love it.”
The truth is that the presidential couple’s relationship has raised all kinds of questions for years, especially after several episodes in which they seemed to lack harmony.
The official trailer concludes with a scene in which Melania Trump and her husband talk on the phone. He asks her if she has seen it on television -without specifying what he is referring to- and she replies, with apparent disinterest: “No, I’ll see it on the news”.
The first lady on Thursday avoided revealing the message of the episode and limited herself to replying: “You will see it in the movie,” reported Agencia EFE.
