U.S. President Donald Trump boasted Thursday that Hispanics “like” him and support him now more than two years ago, when he obtained a historic increase among the Latino electorate, precisely at a time when polls reflect a sharp drop in support among that community.

“I did great with the Hispanic vote, I got tremendous support among Hispanics! Hispanics like me, and I like them,” Trump said at the Cabinet meeting.

Trump claims he won the election thanks to Hispanics

“They are smart people and they have common sense,” he said, insisting that “I won the election because of truly extraordinary Hispanic support, and I think that support is even greater now than it was then.

However, a Fox News poll released Thursday showed Trump losing ground among Republicans, independents and Hispanics, among whom he lost 44 percentage points of positive approval ratings from his peak approval rating.

In addition, a special election for a House of Representatives seat was held in Florida this Tuesday and the Democrats managed to snatch it away from the Republicans, in this district considered very conservative and which includes Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s Palm Beach residence.

The Democrats claim that this victory strengthens their strategy for the mid-term elections and that they will go on the offensive in Florida from now on.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said yesterday that “in our view there are probably at least half a dozen Republicans in Florida who are vulnerable, so we are taking a hard look at the possibility of aggressively intervening in their districts.”

Jeffries noted that the Democrats can compete with a chance of victory against the three Florida Republicans: Mario Diaz-Balart, Carlos Gimenez and Maria Elvira Salazar.

In a Cabinet meeting marked by the war in Iran and the open negotiations in Pakistan that are trying to avoid the escalation of attacks, Trump dedicated a few words to the Hispanic vote that seems to be changing the support he did show him in the 2024 elections.
