US President Donald Trump announced that his country destroyed a “large facility” last week as part of its campaign against a drug trafficking network led, according to Washington, by Venezuela, although he did not specify whether the attack took place within Venezuelan territory.
“We just destroyed, I don’t know if you read it or saw it? They have a big plant, or a big facility, where the ships come out of. Two nights ago, we destroyed it. So we hit them very hard,” Trump said Friday in an interview to a radio podcast that has been picked up Monday by U.S. media.

The President did not specify the nature of the installation and so far his Administration has not echoed the coup.
If confirmed, it would be the first land attack in an anti-drug campaign that has so far taken place in international waters of the Caribbean.
Trump made these statements in a conversation with Republican billionaire and owner of New York radio station WABC, John Catsimatidis.
This while both commented on the U.S. military actions against vessels in the Caribbean to dismantle an alleged drug trafficking network led by what the U.S. calls the Cartel of the Suns, which is allegedly controlled by the Venezuelan government.
For several weeks Trump has been warning that as part of his pressure campaign against the administration of Nicolás Maduro, which has involved the destruction of some thirty ships and the death of more than 100 of their occupants, Washington was going to start attacking targets on land.
U.S. officials quoted by The New York Times stated that the president was referring to a drug production plant in Venezuela and specified that it was destroyed last Wednesday, without elaborating on the details.
So far, the White House has not responded to EFE’s inquiries about the operation and whether this action would open a new front in Washington’s pressure on Maduro, whom Trump and his administration accuse of being the leader of a drug trafficking network, something Caracas denies.
Since the summer, the US has maintained a large naval air deployment in the Caribbean, close to Venezuelan waters, which, according to the US, is aimed at combating drug trafficking, but which Caracas interprets as “threats” and an attempt to bring about a change of regime.
Tensions escalated following Trump’s announcement of a blockade of sanctioned oil tankers moving to and from the South American country, and the seizure of two vessels carrying Venezuelan crude oil in recent weeks.
