U.S. President Donald Trump reported Monday that he is sending his border ‘czar’ Tom Homan to Minneapolis, Minnesota, after tensions between federal agents and protesters continue to escalate following the shooting death of a man by an immigration agent.
“Tonight I’m sending Tom Homan to Minnesota. He hasn’t been involved in that area, but he knows and appreciates a lot of people there. Tom is tough but fair, and he will report directly to me,” Trump wrote on his social network, Truth Social.

Alex Pretti, an American man, died Saturday after being shot several times by federal immigration agents.
Hundreds of people came out to protest this weekend in the streets of the city, as they have been doing since the murder of Renée Good on January 7, also at the hands of another immigration agent.
Local authorities and protesters are calling on the Donald Trump Administration to withdraw troops from the city and end the raids.
However, the president accuses the leaders, all Democrats, of encouraging protests against immigration agents to divert attention from an alleged massive fraud in social programs.
“A major investigation is underway into the massive fraud of more than $20 billion in welfare benefits that has taken place in Minnesota and that is at least partly responsible for the violent organized protests taking place in the streets,” he explained.
He also criticized Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, of Somali origin, and singled her out for, according to him, leaving Somalia “with nothing” and having “an estate of more than $44 million.”
In 2024, Trump chose Homan to implement his tough border control policy, although he was already part of the president’s team in his previous term (2017-2021).
In addition, he was appointed acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in 2017 and has decades of experience in immigration enforcement.
He is a former police officer, U.S. Border Patrol agent and special agent with the former Immigration and Naturalization Service.
