U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that he will not attend the 60th edition of the Super Bowl, scheduled for February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, where the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks will face each other.

The decision not only surprised sports fans, but was also accompanied by strong criticism of the artists who will be part of the event’s musical show.

According to recent statements, the president said that the stadium is “too far away” for him, which is why he opted not to travel to the West Coast for the NFL’s biggest game.

Trump took advantage of the announcement to lash out at the musicians who will participate in the ceremony. In his words, he called the choice of artists “terrible” and assured that, in his opinion, they promote messages of division. “I am anti-them. I think it’s a terrible choice. All they do is sow hatred,” the president said.

One of the names that has generated the most conversation is Bad Bunny, who will headline the halftime show. The Puerto Rican singer, leader in global listens during 2025, had previously stated that he would avoid traveling to the United States during his tour for fear of possible immigration raids at his concerts, which increased the controversy surrounding his participation.

Another of the artists linked to the event is Green Day, the band that will be in charge of the opening ceremony of Super Bowl LX. Its vocalist, Billie Joe Armstrong, has publicly stated on several occasions his disagreement with the anti-immigration policies promoted by Trump. He has even stated that he does not identify with the political agenda of the MAGA movement.

Despite the controversy, the group formed by Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool confirmed their participation with enthusiasm, highlighting the importance of being part of an event that gathers millions of spectators around the world.

In addition to his criticism of the performers, Trump reiterated that the stadium’s location was a determining factor in his absence. Levi’s Stadium is in the San Francisco Bay Area, an area that involves a long commute from Washington. “I would go if it were a little shorter,” he commented, making it clear that the trip does not appeal to his schedule.

The president also noted that, on previous occasions, he has been well received when he attends this type of sporting event, assuring that he usually has the support of the public. “I’ve had incredible receptions at the Super Bowl, they like me,” he said.

Although he will not be attending the Super Bowl, Trump did recently attend the college soccer national championship game, held on Monday, January 19, 2026.

The game pitted Miami against Indiana and ended with a victory for the Hoosiers, led by Cuban-born quarterback Fernando Mendoza.

During that game, the president was captured on camera from a box at the beginning of the national anthem, which generated wide media coverage.

This background reinforces that his absence from the Super Bowl is not due to a lack of interest in sporting events, but to a combination of logistical factors and personal attitudes towards the musical spectacle.
