Victoria Ruffo reopened a delicate chapter of her personal life by recalling her relationship with Eugenio Buzzy and, above all, the way in which the actor bonded with her son José Eduardo during his childhood. The actress assured that what bothered her the most was not the separation itself, but the emotional impact that Derbez’s sporadic visits caused in the child.
Ruffo and Buzzy were romantically involved in the late 1980s and became parents in 1992. Although they tried to formalize their union through a symbolic wedding, the relationship ended definitively in 1997. Today, José Eduardo is 33 years old and is the father of Tessa, the actress’ first granddaughter, an event that also helped to iron out the differences between the two artists in 2024.
Paternal absence and its consequences

In an interview with journalist Matilde Obregón, the telenovela star explained that her main conflict with Eugenio was always the lack of consistency with which she saw her son. According to her, the comedian appeared very few times a year, which generated expectations in the child that were not fulfilled.
“My problem was that he would suddenly appear, as if one day he woke up and said: ‘I have a son, I’m going to go see him’. That didn’t seem fair to José Eduardo,” she said. The actress recalled that each visit altered the little boy’s emotional balance, since, after living with his father, he would return with behavioral changes that affected the progress she had made in his upbringing.
“It was totally unbalanced. Everything I had advanced with him, he was regressing. That seemed fatal to his well-being,” she added.
Ruffo also pointed out that Eugenio Derbez himself has acknowledged in several interviews that, at that stage of his life, he was not prepared or interested in being an active father. According to the actress, the actor prioritized his professional career and constant work, leaving in the background the coexistence with his eldest son.
“He said it himself: he didn’t want to be a father, he didn’t know how to be a father because he never wanted to be one. Today he is an excellent friend to his children, but it is no longer about changing diapers or taking them to the doctor,” he commented frankly.
A contrast to his current fatherhood

Victoria Ruffo said she was surprised, although in a positive way, to see that Eugenio currently maintains a close and constant relationship with his youngest daughter, Aitana, the fruit of his marriage to Alessandra Rosaldo. However, she acknowledged that this presence was not the same with her older children.
“Now he is very present with his little daughter, but with the others it wasn’t like that,” he pointed out.
Despite the differences and the pain she experienced, Ruffo affirmed that she never spoke ill of Eugenio in front of José Eduardo. She believes that children, with time, understand reality on their own.
“Things fall by their own weight. Sooner or later children realize everything,” concluded the actress, making it clear that she always sought to protect her son’s emotional stability above any personal conflict.
