The Golden State Warriors defeated the Dallas Mavericks 126-116 on Thursday, adding another injury to Anthony Davis in a bitter Christmas day for Jason Kidd’s men.

Davis has played only 16 of the Mavericks’ 32 games this season. Weighed down by physical problems, he had missed another 16 in November with a calf injury, from which he returned nearly a month ago, giving Dallas some breathing room after a dismal start to the season. Davis left in the second quarter with a groin injury, the severity of which is still unknown.

The Warriors (16-15) took advantage of Davis’s sensitive absence to dominate this game almost completely, with a maximum difference of +17 in the third quarter.

Stephen Curry scored 23 points -after a poor 2 of 10 three-pointers-, and De’Anthony Melton put in 16.

Jimmy Butler and Dominican Al Harford 14 each.

Butler also contributed 9 assists and 7 rebounds.

For the Mavericks (12-20), rookie Cooper Flagg had 27 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in his Christmas Day debut.

Brandon Williams contributed 26 and P.J. Washington had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Warriors and their championships

The Golden State Warriors are one of the NBA’s most successful and iconic franchises.

With a total of seven championships throughout its history.

Their first title came in 1947, when they were still known as the Philadelphia Warriors, repeating the feat in 1956.

After moving to California, the team returned to the top in 1975, already under the name Golden State Warriors, with a surprising championship led by Rick Barry.

The modern golden era began in 2015, with Stephen Curry as the central figure, revolutionizing the league with his triple-based style of play.

That title was followed by championships in 2017 and 2018, fueled by the arrival of Kevin Durant and a team considered among the best of all time.

The seventh and most recent championship came in 2022, confirming the Warriors as a modern NBA dynasty and cementing their historic legacy.
