In an atmosphere closer to celebration than to mourning, thousands of people gathered at the Movistar Arena in Bogota on Wednesday to pay a posthumous tribute to Colombian popular music singer Yeison Jimenez, who died on Saturday, January 10 in a plane crash in the center of the country.
The hustle and bustle outside the capital’s arena, where the artist’s fans arrived on Tuesday night, moved with the passing hours inside the venue, the same one where Jiménez consolidated his career in July 2024 by selling out in a matter of hours the tickets for his ’17/32 Invicto tour’.
Yeison Jimenez’s funeral is celebrated
The most moving voice of the tribute to Yeison Jiménez did not come from the stage, but from the heart of his daughter Juliana. During the event held this Wednesday, January 14 at the Movistar Arena, the youngest managed to shake all attendees with a simple message,… pic.twitter.com/9viQHrj1XI

Little by little, people filled each one of the seats inside the Movistar Arena, whose central space was transformed into a solemn farewell stage.
On the main stage, a large LED screen presided over the venue with Yeison Jiménez’s name in white letters and a tribute message, accompanied by the years of his life (1991-2026).
On the sides and in front of the stage, floral wreaths were arranged in rows, forming a silent frame surrounding the place where the coffins rest.
In the first line, lined up in front of the audience and the stage were the coffins with the photo of Yeison Jimenez and the other five people who died in the accident, covered with floral arrangements and guarded by family members, relatives and logistics personnel.
The lights, dim and directed, illuminated the set with a respectful tone, while the public occupied the bleachers singing the songs of the deceased artist, in an atmosphere more euphoric than contained, closer to the show than to the recollection, in an enclosure accustomed to the noise of the concerts that today resists to surrender to the silence of the funerals.
“The fourth ‘sold-out'”
The solemn event began around 13.30 local time (18.30 GMT) when a member of the artist’s team appeared on stage and welcomed the audience, making it clear that this was “Yeison Jimenez’s fourth ‘sold-out’ at the Movistar Arena”.
Afterwards, Víctor Hugo Aristizábal, another member of Yeison Jiménez’s close entourage, dedicated a tribute to the singer.
As well as Juan Manuel Rodríguez, Óscar Marín, Jefferson Osorio, Weisman Mora and the pilot Fernando Torres Rojas, who also died in the plane crash in Paipa, a municipality located in the department of Boyacá (center).
The solemnity gave way to the music that began with the presentation of the artist Pipe Bueno, who performed ‘Tengo ganas’, authored by Yeison Jiménez.
Then Jorge Andrés Alzate, known in the music scene as Alzate, and the couple formed by Jessi Uribe and Paola Jara took the stage.
“Fly quietly”

The most emotional moment of the evening was when Luz Mery Galeano, Yeison’s mother, took the stage with Taliana, the artist’s eldest daughter.
“Fly calmly, go to heaven. Here is your heroine,” the woman said between sobs and with her voice cracking, after a minute of stunned silence that took over the room.
Meanwhile, the artist ‘s daughter thanked the attendees for their support and asked to raise a prayer to heaven for her father.
“Be very thankful for your parents,” the minor said.
The evening continued with presentations by Luisito Muñoz, Francy, Arelis Henao, Sebastián Ayala and John Alex Castaño, among others.
The tribute to Jiménez in Bogotá ended around 4:00 p.m. and it is expected that there will be a second event in the evening, so that his thousands of fans who were unable to enter in the morning will have the opportunity to say goodbye to the artist.
