A tremor of preliminary magnitude 4.1 was recorded Saturday morning in the state of Tennessee, the U.S . Geological Survey (USGS) reported.
Although it was a mild event, the quake was felt across state lines, reaching parts of Georgia and North Carolina.
Epicenter located near Greenback

The quake occurred at approximately 9:00 a.m. local time (11:00 GMT), with an epicenter located about 21 kilometers southeast of Greenback, a small town in eastern Tennessee.
According to official data, the depth of the telluric movement was shallow enough to be felt clearly on the earth’s surface.
Several people in nearby cities, as well as more distant locations such as Atlanta (Georgia) and areas of western North Carolina, reported feeling the shaking.
Through social networks and local media, some witnesses commented that the movement was brief but unexpected, especially in a region where such phenomena are not common.
Low risk, but with reports of damage

The USGS assured that the probability of this earthquake causing casualties or serious damage is low, since many of the structures in that area are designed to withstand this type of tremor.
However, minor damage was reported in areas near the epicenter.
It has not yet been detailed how many homes or buildings were affected, but authorities continue to assess the situation.
East Tennessee seismic zone

This earthquake occurred in a geologic belt known as the East Tennessee Seismic Zone, which extends from that state into northwest Georgia and northeast Alabama.
Although it is not a highly seismic area like California, it does register a constant activity of mild tremors throughout the year.
According to local media, several minor earthquakes are detected in this region every year.
The most recent event of similar magnitude occurred in 2018, when a 4.4 earthquake also struck the area, although without major consequences.
Ongoing surveillance and prevention
So far, no emergency alerts have been issued and no injuries have been reported.
Local and federal authorities continue to monitor seismic activity to detect possible aftershocks.
Residents are advised to stay informed through official channels and review emergency safety protocols.
