Young Hispanic girl in New Jersey tried to stab her 2-year-old brother

Marlene Rodriguez is only 20 years old and faces several serious charges

A young woman identified as Marlene Rodriguez, a 20-year-old New Jersey resident, was arrested and faces several serious charges, including attempted murder, after she allegedly stabbed her younger brother, a boy just 2 years old, in the chest.

The incident occurred last November 1, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m., at a home located in Brick Township, a township in Ocean County.

As confirmed by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, emergency personnel responded to a 911 call alerting them to an injured minor inside the home.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the toddler with a stab wound to the chest area.

The child was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he received urgent medical attention.

According to authorities, the child remains stable, but under continuous medical observation.

The suspect, Marlene Rodriguez, was arrested later that day at Brick Township Police Department headquarters.

He is currently in custody at the Ocean County Jail, without bail while the judicial process against him continues.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, the young woman faces other Buzzy charges, including unlawful possession of a weapon, use of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and endangering the welfare of a minor.

The investigation of the case is being conducted jointly by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Brick Township Detective Bureau and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit.

So far, authorities have not released details about the possible motive for the attack, nor about the emotional or mental state of the alleged assailant.

No information has been made public about other family members or whether the child will be placed in the custody of child protective services.

The Prosecutor’s Office has assured that a rigorous process will be followed in accordance with state law, and has asked the public, if they have relevant information about this or other similar cases, to contact local authorities or the county helpline.
