The Fresno community is mourning the death of Faustino Mancilla, a 24-year-old man who was shot and killed on October 29 during an incident in a residential area southwest of the city.
The incident, which has shocked family, friends and neighbors, occurred around 6:45 p.m. near Poppy and California avenues, according to the Fresno Police Department.
A shooting that left a family in tatters

According to the official report, the agents responded to the emergency call after receiving reports of gunshots.
Upon arrival, they found Faustino seriously injured. Despite the efforts of the paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have confirmed that this is a homicide under investigation, although so far no details about the suspects have been released and no arrests have been announced.
His family described Faustino Mancilla as a hard-working, cheerful young man full of dreams, who had just turned 24 years old four days before his death.
“He was a man who strived to get ahead and build a better future for his family,” said his twin brother, who shared the testimony on social networks and in a fundraising campaign.
A young father with many dreams
Faustino Mancilla was the father of a three-year-old girl, to whom he dedicated most of his time and motivation.
According to family members, he constantly spoke of his desire to advance in his work and offer a stable life to his daughter.
His death has left a deep void among his loved ones, who now face not only the pain of his departure, but also the uncertainty of a judicial process that is just beginning.
“Losing a child, a sibling and a parent so suddenly is something that cannot be described in words,” shared her family, who are also organizing a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses and provide financial support for the little girl.
A community calling for justice
The case has generated great sadness in Fresno, a city that has seen an increase in homicides in 2025, according to local statistics from the Fresno Bee.
Community leaders and neighbors have come together to stand with the Mancilla family in their quest for justice and to call for greater security in the southern part of the city, where shootings have affected several Hispanic families in recent months.
Fresno authorities have asked for the cooperation of anyone with information about the case.
Reports can be made anonymously to the Fresno Police Department or through Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867.
As the investigation continues, Faustino’s family is grateful for the expressions of support and donations received on the GoFundMe page.
“Every contribution, no matter how small, means a lot. It helps us to give her the goodbye she deserves and to take care of her little daughter,” her brother said in the message posted with the campaign.
The tragedy of Faustino Mancilla is a reminder of the human impact behind every act of violence and the importance of community unity to support the victims and demand justice.
