In the midst of her divorce from Otto Padrón, with whom she shared 14 years of marriage and two children, Angélica Vale decided to tell a very particular story about her family life: the silent battle for a cooking recipe that her ex-mother-in-law refused to share for years.
The actress and host told the anecdote on December 10 on her program La Vale Show, mixing humor, nostalgia and a touch of irony as she recalled Padrón’s mother, now deceased, and the way she ended up “snatching” the culinary secret she so desired.
Angélica said that the father of her children had been asking her for a long time to prepare Cuban food, especially the famous yucca that his mother used to make. Eager to please him, she turned to her former mother-in-law for the recipe, waiting for clear and detailed instructions.
The answer, however, was always the same and desperate: “It’s very easy, you just put the yucca and that’s it”. “You make the mojo and put the yucca and that’s it”.
Every time Angélica tried to go deeper -especially on how exactly to prepare the mojo- the explanation remained the same: something “very easy”, almost obvious, but without measures, times or concrete steps. Eventually, the actress came to a funny but very clear conclusion: that vagueness was not a coincidence, but a way of not letting go of the whole recipe.
“Obviously, so I wouldn’t have it,” he commented with a chuckle, acknowledging that his ex-mother-in-law’s attitude was familiar to many stories of mothers-in-law jealously guarding their star dishes.
The day Angélica Vale’s ex-mother-in-law let the secret out

The unexpected twist came in a delicate context. Angélica’s ex-mother-in-law was hospitalized and, according to what she said, she was “very ill” and under heavy medication, to the point that the actress described her as “very stoned”.
It was then that Otto Padrón had a strategic idea. During a visit to the hospital, he took advantage of a moment alone to tell his mother: “Mom, come on, give her the recipe for the yucca, I’m going to get a coffee”.
With that sentence, he left Angelica alone in the room with the lady, practically “opening the door” for her to try, once again, to get the prescription.
This time, the situation was different. Under the effects of the medication, the ex-mother-in-law loosened all the details. Angélica said that now she explained to her step by step what to do, without evasions or generalities. She, aware of the unique opportunity, reacted immediately: “As she was on drugs, she let me in on all the secrets and all the information”, she recalled amused.
The actress assured that she “scrambled to write down” everything the lady said, determined not to miss a single detail in order to reproduce exactly the yucca that her ex-husband liked so much.
In sharing the anecdote, Angélica Vale humorously reflected on that frequent dynamic between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law, where family recipes become almost a treasure to be shared in dribs and drabs. Laughing, she commented that she will surely have to “pay” for all this in the future, when she will be on the other side of the story.
She also said that if there is one recipe that she will find hard to let go of when it is her turn to be a mother-in-law, it will be her lemon pie. Even so, she said she would make “an effort, all for my child who spoils me”, making it clear that, behind the joke, she still values love and family life.
The anecdote comes at a sensitive time for the actress, after it became known that Otto Padrón started divorce proceedings and that she herself found out about the process through social networks. Even so, Angélica chose to tell this story from humor, showing that, even in the midst of painful changes, she still finds room for laughter and memories.
