A fundraising campaign on the GoFundMe platform to support the family of Alex Jeffrey Pretti, the 37-year-old nurse who died after being shot by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents during a raid in Minneapolis, has surpassed $1 million in donations, according to information released Monday.
The collection, created by people close to the family, seeks to help Pretti’s relatives cover immediate expenses and long-term needs, in the midst of the legal process and the emotional impact of his death. As of Monday, the campaign had accumulated close to 1.2 million dollars, with tens of thousands of individual contributions.

Alex Jeffrey Pretti was a U.S. citizen, a resident of Minneapolis, and worked as a nurse in an intensive care unit (ICU), according to testimony from family members and colleagues.
His death occurred on January 24, 2026, during a day marked by protests against immigration raids ordered by President Donald Trump’s administration.
According to campaign organizers, Alex Pretti died after a struggle with federal agents, a version that contrasts with the official explanation of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which has maintained that the agents acted in self-defense.
Videos posted on social networks, recorded by witnesses, are part of the controversy and have been cited by activists and protesters as evidence of excessive use of force.

Pretti’s case is the second fatal incident involving federal immigration agents in Minneapolis in less than three weeks.
On January 7, Renée Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, also a U.S. citizen, was shot and killed by an ICE agent during another raid.
Both cases have provoked a strong social reaction in Minneapolis and other cities across the country, with protests questioning not only the use of force by federal agents, but also the massive presence of immigration operations in urban communities.
GoFundMe in favor of Alex Pretti

Since Alex Pretti’s death, civil organizations, unions, health care workers and local residents have demanded independent investigations, as well as greater transparency about the rules of engagement of federal agents deployed in the city.
While the federal government has defended the actions of its agents, eyewitnesses and civil rights defenders point out that there are inconsistencies between the official reports and the publicly disseminated images, which has intensified distrust and social unrest.
In the message posted on the GoFundMe campaign, the organizers explain that the money raised will be used to support Pretti’s family members, both in the short and long term.
They also confirmed that they have established contact with Alex Pretti’s father, who will be in charge of administering the funds.
Beyond the financial support, the campaign has become a symbol of social discontent against immigration raids and the role of ICE in cities like Minneapolis, where the debate about security, civil rights and migration is more relevant than ever.
