In a high-precision operation that included aerial surveillance and tactical ground deployment, Mexican federal forces captured Isaí “N”, better known as “El Chinacate”.

The detainee, identified as the nephew of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, was one of the priority targets of Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration due to his strategic role within the Sinaloa Cartel.

The “logistical brain” of fentanyl

The arrest of Chapo’s nephew occurred in Nogales, Sonora, following intelligence work led by Secretary Omar García Harfuch.

According to the official report, “El Chinacate” was not just any member: he was a key logistical operator for the Chapitos faction.

He is accused of coordinating the massive production and distribution of synthetic drugs to the United States and Costa Rica.

Last year alone, he was linked to the shipment of more than 10,000 fentanyl pills to U.S. territory, for which he has an immediate extradition warrant for crimes against health and organized crime.

Arsenal and official armoring

The operation was not minor.

Elements of SEDENA, SEMAR, National Guard and the Attorney General’s Office surrounded a property in Nogales where, after an authorized search, they surprised Isaí “N” with long arms and useful cartridges.

But the blow to the narco did not end there.

In a parallel action in Tapachula, Chiapas, authorities busted a supposed truck boarding house that served as a front for organized crime, achieving a historic seizure:

  • 687 kilograms of cocaine.
  • 151 firearms and 18 grenades.
  • Tractor-trailers and containers ready for transport.

International pressure and new strategy

This capture comes in a context of maximum pressure from Washington, which last year labeled the Sinaloa Cartel as a terrorist organization.

For the Mexican government, this arrest is a necessary victory that defends its current security strategy based on intelligence and coordination.

While civil organizations continue to point out that violence in states such as Sonora and Chiapas does not let up.
