Mexico’s Donovan Carrillo finished his participation in the Olympic Winter Games in the men’s individual figure skating category in 22nd position, with 219.06 points, after a worthy performance in the free program.

The judges awarded the Mexican a score of 143.50 (71.56 in the technical part and 71.94 in the artistic components), the best of the season in the free exercise for him. His previous best score had been 139.05, precisely in the pre-Olympic in Beijing, where he qualified for these Games.

Donovan Carrillo, 26, Mexico’s seven-time national champion, advanced to the final phase of this Winter Olympic Games competition by placing among the top 24 in the short program with 75.56 points.

His exercise, although marked by an error in the execution of the triple Axel, was enough to be able to show his free program on the ice in Milan.

To the rhythm of a medley of Elvis Presley songs, the Mexican presented an exercise with two quadruple jumps that he completed without falling to the ice.

Although he went from strength to strength, suffering from the fatigue caused by the accumulation of jumps and combinations, he did not have to regret any deduction of points.

Pure emotion

“It’s very inspiring to be building part of the history of my sport and my country,” he explained, in statements collected by the organization.
