The documentary of the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, which shows behind the scenes of the days leading up to the second inauguration of her husband, U.S. President Donald Trump, will be released next Monday, March 9, on the Amazon Prime platform, after its theatrical release.

The film, titled ‘Melania’, debuted last January 30 in theaters, grossing $7 million in its first weekend, exceeding expectations and becoming the best opening for a documentary in the last decade.

Since then, interest in the film has waned, ending its theatrical run with a total gross of $16.4 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Did Melania have the expected success at the box office?

‘Melania’ chronicles the 20 days leading up to Trump’s second inauguration as president on January 20, 2025, and was directed by Brett Ratner, and is the first film he has directed since 2017 when he was accused by several women of sexual misconduct, something he denies.

Amazon MGM Studios paid $40 million for the rights to the documentary and launched an unprecedented million-dollar advertising campaign for such a film, which was interpreted as an attempt by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to strengthen the relationship with the White House.

The company claims that it paid the market price and that it acquired the film because “customers are going to love it,” reported Agencia EFE.
