The president of the conservative group Turning Point USA at Florida International University(FIU) resigned from his position after it was revealed that he was one of the members of a group chat linked to the Republican Party, in which racist insults, anti-Semitic comments and misogynistic language were proffered.
“The Turning Point USA delegation at Florida International University (FIU) has been informed of the recent incident involving the delegation’s leadership. The delegation chair has resigned his position, has turned over social media, and we are currently reconstituting our leadership team,” the association reported in a statement.

The resignation of the president, Ian Valdes, comes days after the university launched an investigation against that Whatsapp group chat.
It had been created by a local Republican Party official to bring together conservative students.
According to the Miami Herald, which had access to the conversations, members of the group routinely used racist pronouncements.
They referred to women with offensive terms and systematically insulted homosexuals and Jews.
They also reflected on Adolf Hitler’s policies.
Among those allegedly making such comments were Valdes and Miami-Dade County Republican Party Secretary Abel Carvajal, who founded the group.
However, Carvajal has refused to resign for the time being (Filed as: Florida scandal after Turning Point leader resigns).
Republican Party of Florida condemns racist comments

The Florida branch of the Republican Party indicated in a statement that it is conducting “an internal review of this situation.”
He dismissed the comments as “disgusting”.
“The Republican Party of Florida consistently opposes racism, anti-Semitism and bigotry in all of its hateful forms of expression,” he said.
Turning Point USA was founded by the late ultra-conservative leader Charlie Kirk.
Killed in September during one of his controversial debates at Utah Valley University.
Kirk was an ally of U.S. President Donald Trump and created the organization with the goal of spreading conservative and free-market values on U.S. college campuses (Filed under: Scandal in Florida after resignation of Turning Point leader).
