American actors Kristen Stewart and Woody Harrelson are an extremely dysfunctional father and daughter in ‘Full Phil’, the new comedy by French director Quentin Dupieux, presented out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival.

Once again pushing the limits of the absurdist humor that characterizes Dupieux’s films, the film – also short in length, as usual – is the story of a neurotic father named Philip (Harrelson) who tries to reconnect with his daughter (Stewart) during a getaway to Paris.

She, uninterested in mending the bond, keeps eating non-stop – though this doesn’t seem to affect her at all, though it does Philip – and is more involved with watching a bizarre 1950s ‘kitsch’ horror film (starring actress Emma Mackey) in the luxurious suite her father has booked next to the Louvre, in a Paris comically ravaged by protests.

The tension is compounded by the presence of a persistent hotel employee (Charlotte Le Bon), whom her instincts tell her that Philip may be an aggressor.

The film premiered in the early hours of the morning, with a red carpet parade beforehand, as part of the Midnight Sessions section of the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.

Harrelson appeared on the red carpet in an all-black suit that contrasted with the white chosen by Dupieux.

The French filmmaker is already a Cannes veteran and in 2024 he was the chosen figure to open the 77th edition of the French competition with ‘The Second Act’ (‘Le Deuxième Acte’).

But it was Stewart, wearing a red and black dress to climb the famous 24 steps of the Grand Théâtre Lumière, who attracted the most flashes from photographers.

In addition to this film, Dupieux is doing double duty at Cannes this year with the animated film ‘Le vertige’, which will close the parallel section of the Filmmakers’ Fortnight, reported Agencia EFE.
