In February 2025, Jocelynn Rojo Carranza, an 11-year-old Latina girl from Gainesville, Texas, took her own life after months of bullying at school. Her classmates threatened to report her family to immigration authorities, creating a deep fear of deportation.
This tragic event has highlighted the vulnerability of immigrant children to bullying and xenophobia in U.S. schools.
A mural for healing

Rosalía Torres Weiner, a Mexican artist based in Charlotte, in the state of North Carolina, and founder of Red Calaca Studio, has initiated a project to create a mural in honor of Jocelynn Rojo.
Known for her focus on “artivism,” Rosalía Torres Weiner uses art as a tool to tell stories of the Latino community and promote social justice.
The mural seeks not only to pay tribute to the Hispanic girl Jocelynn Rojo.
It also aims to raise awareness about bullying and the difficulties faced by immigrant families.
“It is time to talk, reflect and act,” said the statement.
“I am launching this fundraiser to cover the costs of creating a public mural in memory of Jocelynn.”
“I have already secured the site, and donations will help cover the rental of a scissor lift, paints, materials and the support of an assistant.”
“I will be donating the design, my time and my talent to lead and realize this project wholeheartedly.”
