The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, confirmed on Monday the detention of five Mexicans after an immigration raid carried out in Colorado Springs, Colorado, last weekend. She reiterated her rejection of these actions and assured that the Mexican Government provides consular assistance to those affected and their families in the United States.
This development comes against a backdrop of increasingly tougher immigration policies under the current administration of President Donald Trump.
What happened in Colorado?

During her morning conference, Sheinbaum informed that the five nationals are already in contact with the Mexican Consulate.
The immigration raid, carried out by the Drug Enforcement Administration(DEA), resulted in the arrest of more than 100 undocumented immigrants.
This was at a night club in Colorado Springs, where drugs and weapons were also seized.
President Trump celebrated the operation on his social networks, calling it a “great bust” and assuring that those arrested include “drug dealers, murderers and other violent criminals.”
Simultaneous raids

The Colorado operation follows other recent raids in Florida.
Approximately 800 immigrants were detained in different cities such as Miami, Tampa, Orlando and Jacksonville.
According to documents cited by the Miami Herald, immigration authorities are looking primarily for people with criminal records or finalized deportation orders.

Florida, led by Governor Ron DeSantis, has toughened its stance on irregular immigration.
In February 2025, DeSantis signed state laws that impose harsher penalties against undocumented immigrants and facilitate local cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
Response from Mexico

In light of the immigration raid, Sheinbaum emphasized that the Mexican government will maintain its commitment to protect the rights of its citizens abroad.
“We will always support Mexicans in the United States,” he said.
Mexico maintains active consular assistance operations to guarantee legal representation and access to emergency services for Mexican nationals affected by the raids.
The actions in Colorado and Florida reflect the advancement of the anti-immigrant agenda of Trump, who has vowed to carry out the largest deportation campaign in modern U.S. history.
