This Arizona restaurant shooting adds to the troubling national statistic.

According to Gun Violence Archive, the United States records 97 mass shootings so far in 2025.

The organization defines a “mass shooting” as any incident in which four or more people are injured or killed, not counting the shooter.

Compounding the situation is that this attack occurred during an important cultural celebration, Cinco de Mayo.

It commemorates the victory of the Mexican army at the Battle of Puebla and is widely celebrated in the U.S. by the Latino community.

Latino organizations and community leaders in Arizona have expressed their dismay, calling for increased security measures at public events and crowded establishments.

Local and federal authorities have also been urged to redouble efforts against gun violence, which disproportionately affects Latino and African-American communities in the country.
