The boxing world deeply regrets the passing of British boxer Georgia O’Connor, who died on Wednesday at the age of 25 after an intense battle against a cancer defined by doctors as “rare, aggressive and incurable”. The diagnosis was given to her in October 2024, a few months after her last public appearance on the sporting circuit.

Georgia O’Connor, originally from Durham, was a standout in amateur boxing. She won silver medal at the 2017 World Youth Championships and bronze at the 2018 World Youth Championships, as well as hanging on to a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games also in 2017. Her talent caught the eye from a young age, cementing her as one of the promising stars of British boxing.

Georgia O’Connor’s professional debut occurred in October 2021, defeating Ester Konecna by decision.

She subsequently defeated Erica Alvarez in April 2022 and Joyce Van Ee in October of the same year.

Since then, he has not stepped back into the ring, concentrating on his health.

She retired with an undefeated record of 3-0, and with the respect of those who saw in her a future world champion.

He married on May 9, 2025, just two weeks before his death.

Her last post on Instagram was a photo of her ring with the message:

“09.05.2025. The day I married the love of my life”.
