Mass ICE Raid in San Antonio: 275 Undocumented Immigrants Taken Into Custody in Just One Week

Authorities prioritize public safety

Between May 11 and May 17, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted a massive raid in San Antonio, Texas, resulting in the detention of 275 undocumented immigrants, 178 of whom had criminal records.

This operation is part of a federal effort to strengthen public safety by arresting individuals who pose a risk to their communities, according to authorities.

ICE reported that among the detainees are individuals with felony records such as:

Illegal re-entry after having been deported multiple times.
Trafficking and distribution of drugs such as heroin and methamphetamines.
Domestic violence, weapons possession and international fraud.

Notable cases include a 34-year-old Mexican national, twice deported, now facing a new charge of illegal re-entry.

As well as a 37-year-old Cuban with convictions for manufacturing and selling narcotics and a 57-year-old Costa Rican wanted by his country’s authorities for fraud.

The operation was coordinated by the ICE San Antonio office and was supported by several federal and state agencies, including:

Texas Department of Public Safety
DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration)
FBI
Border Patrol
Federal Marshals Service (U.S. Marshals)

According to Sylvester M. Ortega, acting director of ICE’s San Antonio office, these joint operations are a sign of the institution’s commitment to protecting the American people.

“Immigrants with criminal histories have taken advantage of our immigration laws for far too long. Our mission is stronger than ever,” Ortega said.
