On July 2, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., 39, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Studio City, Los Angeles. U.S. authorities accuse him of being in the country illegally and of having ties to the Sinaloa Cartel, an organization designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. He also faces an arrest warrant in Mexico since January 2023 for alleged participation in organized crime and trafficking of arms, ammunition and explosives.
The Department of Homeland Security(DHS) indicated that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. entered the U.S. in August 2023 on a B2 tourist visa, which expired in February 2024. Subsequently, he applied for permanent residency through marriage to a U.S. citizen, a process in which inconsistencies and possible links to illicit activities were detected.

Legendary Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez expressed his deep consternation for his son’s situation.
During an interview in the program “Venga la Alegría”, he was visibly affected when talking about the arrest of Chávez Jr.
Recalling the birth of her children as the happiest moments of her life, she could not hold back the tears.
Referring to God, Julio Cesar Chavez said:
“I believe that God’s timing is perfect. Sometimes we get desperate because we want everything to work out…”.
“I hope to God that your brother is well and that everything will be all right.” She also acknowledged: “My mistake was to give everything to my children”.
Deportation process and legal status

Following his arrest, U.S. authorities initiated the expedited deportation process of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to Mexico.

The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) confirmed that there is an arrest warrant in force against him for crimes related to organized crime and arms trafficking.
