Grupo Orlegi has officially confirmed that it has initiated the process of selling Atlas FC, putting an end to the timeshare in Liga MX that it had held since 2019, when it acquired the club from Guadalajara.
The decision, communicated through a formal announcement and disseminated by journalist Pedro Antonio Flores, also states that the group will retain ownership of Club Santos Laguna, thus closing a chapter of more than five years in which Atlas was a fundamental part of the business project. “This process will be carried out responsibly and in compliance with Liga MX agreements,” stated Orlegi in the official statement. “We are looking for a new group that understands the relevance, context and potential of the club.”
What will happen with Atlas FC?

Despite the natural uncertainty generated by this transition, Orlegi Sports clarified that the team will not disappear, nor will it be transferred to another city or change its name.
There are legal “locks” within the Liga MX bylaws that protect the club’s identity, including its headquarters in Guadalajara, Jalisco.
Reportedly, there are already investment funds and businessmen interested in acquiring the club, but no official sale has yet been finalized.
The process will be advised by the firms Moelis & Company, ADS, and Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, in order to guarantee transparency and sporting continuity.
