On Monday, August 11, 2025, a day many were taking advantage of for school shopping turned tragic at a Target store located at 8601 Research Blvd. in north Austin, when a shooting claimed the lives of three people and left at least several injured, including a child.The incident occurred around 3 p.m., in the store’s parking lot area, right at the height of customer traffic.
The Austin Police Department (ADP) said in a message on its X account that at least two people were killed in the incident that occurred at 13.34 local time (18.34 GMT) in the parking lot of a Target store. The ADP later confirmed to television station KVUE that a third victim had died and two other people were injured. Their condition is unknown.

Austin-Travis County EMS treated at least four people, according to their report, with some reports mentioning a minor among the injured.
However, police officials refrained from specifying the exact number of victims with non-fatal injuries in their initial communications.
Suspect arrested and area closed down

Austin police confirmed the arrest of a suspect, described as a white male, wearing khaki shorts and a Hawaiian-style floral shirt.
Efforts were made to keep the area cordoned off, including closing a section of the MoPac Southbound Frontage Road, although the main lanes remained open.
