For more than a decade, the coast of Gilgo Beach, Long Island, was the silent scene of an unpunished crime. The bodies of at least 11 young women – many of them sex workers, mothers and daughters – were strewn along the Ocean Parkway without anyone being able to identify a culprit.

A monster hiding in plain sight
For years, research seemed to be at a standstill.
Clues faded, suspects came and went, and families continued to call for justice.
But everything changed in 2023, when the case took an unexpected turn: the main suspect turned out to be Rex Heuermann.
He was a New York architect, a family man and resident of Massapequa Park, who lived just minutes from where the bodies were found.
“It is a reminder that evil sometimes has no face. It can hide behind a facade of normality, in an ordinary house, in a seemingly stable life,” Cornejo reflects in the episode.
