American singer and songwriter Miley Cyrus continues to cement her position as one of the most influential artists of her generation.
Following the release of her ninth studio album, Something Beautiful, at the end of May 2025, the performer surprised her fans with the announcement of a deluxe edition that adds two high-profile collaborations: Lockdown, with the legendary David Byrne, and Secrets, a track featuring two iconic members of Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood.
Through her social networks, Cyrus explained that Secrets has a deeply personal background.
He described it as a song written “as a peace offering for someone I had lost for a while, but always loved.”
In his words, “forgiveness and freedom are the same,” noting that the song was created as a dedication to his father, fellow singer Billy Ray Cyrus.
The link with Fleetwood Mac is no coincidence. Miley has expressed on multiple occasions that this band has been one of her main musical influences, so having Buckingham and Fleetwood in this collaboration was a particularly significant achievement.

The track had already had a preview in August 2025, when Billy Ray Cyrus shared on Instagram a video listening to the song. In the publication, he revealed that his daughter wrote it especially for him as a birthday gift and that it was recorded with some of his favorite musicians, which added an emotional nuance to the premiere.
The release of this song occurs in a complex family context. After almost three decades of marriage, in 2022 Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus divorced, an event that marked a before and after in the family dynamics.
Shortly thereafter, Tish Cyrus got her life back on track and in 2023 married Prison Break actor Dominic Purcell in an intimate ceremony in Malibu. The wedding was attended by Miley and her sisters Trace and Brandi, but her younger brothers Noah and Braison were absent, revealing some internal divisions.
Meanwhile, Billy Ray surprised by announcing his engagement to Australian singer Firerose, whom he met on the set of Hannah Montana when she was a child. The relationship sparked controversy because of the age difference and the origin of the bond. The marriage ended just seven months later, when Billy Ray filed for divorce alleging “inappropriate marital conduct”.
Rumors about a rift between Miley and Billy Ray grew stronger in 2024. During the Grammy Awards, where the singer won her first award for Flowers, she was accompanied by her mother and sister Brandi, but in her thank you speech she did not mention her father or her other siblings.
That silence, interpreted as an intentional gesture, confirmed for many the fracture within the family. However, the dedication of Secrets seems to show an attempt at reconciliation or, at least, a recognition of the weight that her father has had in her personal and artistic life.
