Venezuelans Jackson Chourio and William Contreras knocked the ball out of the park and Puerto Rico’s Kiké Hernández responded again at the right time.

The Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers moved within one win of clinching a ticket to the National League Championship Series in the Major League Baseball (MLB) postseason.

Jackson Chourio hit a three-run home run and compatriot William Contreras knocked the ball out of the park and scored twice to help the Brewers beat the Cubs and move within one win of clinching the MLB National League Divisional Series.

The Cubs took the lead in the first inning on a three-run home run by Japan’s Seiya Suzuki.

But the Brewers’ answer came at the close of that same first act with a three-run homer by Andrew Vaughn.

Brewers take the lead and reach for the Series

The Brewers went ahead in the third inning when Contreras knocked the ball out of the park with nobody on base.

And Chourio, who was in doubt before the game due to right hamstring discomfort, hit his three-run homer in the fourth inning to give the Brewers the lead for good.

Jacob Misiorowski (1-0) threw three scoreless innings with four strikeouts to earn the win for the Brewers, who relied on a three-strikeout inning from Dominican Abner Uribe to finish the game.

The Brewers (2-0) completed their two-game sweep of the Cubs (0-2) at American Family Field and will now look to end that duel at Chicago’s Wrigley Field on Wednesday in the third game of the best-of-five series.

Blake Snell had a dominant outing, Puerto Rico’s Kiké Hernández scored and drove in a run, and the Dodgers withstood a late rally by the Phillies to move within one win of clinching the MLB National League Championship Series.

Snell (2-0) had a pitching duel with Peru’s Jesús Luzardo (0-1), in which he completed six innings of one-hit ball and struck out nine batters.

For his part, Luzardo (0-1) showed the quality of his pitches and retired 17 consecutive batters en route to a six-episode, two-run, five-strikeout performance, taking the loss.

Dodgers earn key win over Phillies

Hernandez ignited the Dodgers’ offense in the seventh act, when with one out and men on the corners, he hit an inside-the-box hit that was picked up by bullpen man Trea Turner, who threw to the plate, but could not retire the Dominican Teoscar Hernandez, who scored the first run of a four-run Dodgers’ rally in the seventh act.

Will Smith produced two runs and Japan’s Shohei Ohtani drove in a run in the Dodgers’ game-winning run.

The Phillies, who scored a run in the eighth, threatened to even the score in the ninth inning when Cuban Nick Castellanos connected on a two-run double and moved into scoring position with no outs.

But relievers Alex Vesia and Japan’s Roki Sasaki (2) managed to complete the actions without allowing any more runs.

The Dodgers (2-0) won both games at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia and now head to Dodger Stadium, where they will try to wrap up this MLB series on Wednesday.
