Argentina’s Lionel Messi announced on Tuesday, October 14, that next December he will host the Messi Cup in Miami, Florida, a tournament that will bring together eight of the best soccer youth teams in the world.

“I can finally tell you that in December there will be a very special tournament for promising young players in Miami, with some of the best clubs in the world, and there will be many more activities during those days. And there will also be many more activities during those days, I hope you like it!”, the Argentine star informed through his official Instagram account.

The U-16 teams of FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, Manchester City, River Plate, Inter Milan, Newell’s Old Boys, Chelsea and Inter Miami will be the participants in the first edition of the Messi Cup, to be held in Miami from December 9 to 14, according to Messi himself.

The matches will take place at Inter Miami’s facilities, including Chase Stadium and the Florida Blue Training Center, according to the Florida club, where Messi plays.

The eight teams will be divided into two groups and will play a minimum of three matches against the other teams in their group.

This will be followed by the knockout phase to crown the champion of the inaugural edition of the Messi Cup.

The final, as well as the match for third and fourth place, will be played on the last day at Chase Stadium, where Inter Miami plays its home games.
